i have a very sandy soil (house built on old sand quarry). No matter what I try I cannot get any acers to live beyond a couple of years. I've tried them in pots, out of pots directly into the ground, with compost and without, with ericacious compost and without and I've tried various different locations round the garden, sun, part shade and shade. I don't normally suffer plants dying on me...any suggestions would be greatly received!
