Feeding & Scarifying my Lawn.
Hi I wonder if someone could give me some advice,as I am in a quandary with what to do first, I had a new lawn laid last Autumn,& now there are quite a few thin patches,& a lot of thatch,I won't be using weed & feed as there is no moss.but I have bought some liquid fertiliser that attaches to the garden hose & mixes with the water.I need to scarify it & seed & topdress over it.what I would like to know is, do I feed it first, then scarify, & seed,or do I feed it after I have done everything, & also how long to leave it in between feeding & scarifying & seeding.I am a bit of a novice so would appreciate your good advice.many thanks.

I would scarify and seed first. Top dress can only happen when you have got the lawn stable and is part of a yearly program of evening hollows and filling in small gaps that can occur after harsh scarifying. You can also use it on bald patches after putting seeds down. But this isn't always necessary, it's only recommended if you feel birds may take all the seeds.
If you follow this up, I recommend about 6-8 weeks, you could start feeding.
Thank you very much Borderline, when I mentioned top dressing, I meant covering the seeds after scattering to keep the birds off,i thought it was called top dressing, shows what a novice I am lol.I will take your very good advice & hopefully in a couple of months I will have a lush lawn,so thanks again.
Yes, that is top dressing. I don't have a lawn anymore and probably out of touch with many of the new ideas, but I guess everyone has a different idea of how to deal with a lawn themselves. When I used to cover patches up, I simply raked the area that was without grass and then scattered some seeds. After that, I just threw a bit of soil that has been grounded down a bit from the borders elsewhere to mix it up a bit. But using your top dressing is definitely fine and recommended.
I mix the grass seed with compost in a ratio of about a handful of seed to six of compost, rake the areas scatter the mix down then pat it firmly, water, water and water in this weather.
Yes that sounds like a good idea Hogweed, will save some time too.thank you.
