Blank canvas of a garden - ideas please
I have a bit of a blank canvas of a garden, i ideally need something that is low maintenance but nice on the eye.
Its our first house so im willing to put in the work but just need some knowledge or even some 'how to's' to get me going!
Any recommendations please

DO you want to be a gardener? Are you interested? Do you have the time? All questions you need to ask of yourself.
Depending on the answers, if they are yes, then start to look at the gardens around you. Whar have other people done? what are they growing. That's the best place to start. Then take yourself off to local gardens, even parks. Get an idea of what plants you like. Find out what they are and the conditions they like. Then decide what you want to do in your garden - patio, childrens play area, shed etc etc. Draw your plans out on paper and then start..................
Excellent advice. Also think about how you want to USE the garden: kids, pets, entertaining? Do you want to eat what you grow? Don't hurry, there's plenty of time to decide.
No i don't have the time, no i don't want to be a gardener, although i do have a slight interest in it.
We don't have any children and may use it to just sit in in the summer. Thats all, something low maintenance as i said.
if you don't have the time and you don't want to be a gardener, forgive me, but what sort of garden do you want?
The first question I'd ask, is how much effort and money are you prepared to put into it.
We recently bought our first house and with it came a fab garden-I work and have two tiny children, however, so low-maintenance was really important to me. Knew nothing about gardening either so went along to the library and got a few books out, think there was one called 'low maintenance gardening'-so library might be worth a trip if you've one nearby? I remember one of the tips was to lose the lawn-which I found a bit odd at the time but have since discovered they can require a fair bit of maintenance...
In the end I found I kind of loved being in the garden and am out there for at least an hour a day-so not low-maintenance at all really...
