Help identifying this weed
Can anyone help me identify this weed? It's growing all over my garden and grows huge very quickly, it's prickly and has a woody trunk. Also what's the best way to get rid of it?
Thanks!

I'm pretty certain that's elder (sambucus nigra) but not sure where the 'prickly' come in.

Do the leaves smell pungent when crushed in your fingers? If so, it's definitely that.

Definitely Elder (Sambucus nigra) .... however it definitely doesn't have a prickly stem ... is it growing amongst something else?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hmmm maybe, what I have is definitely thorny though as it keeps spiking me!
Here are some more pics of a smaller one in the garden and the woody trunk it has
