Bolting rhubarb

Last year I planted a rhubarb plant bought from my local garden centre, this is in a barrel filled with compost and manure, all appeared to going well until a couple of weeks ago it bolted.

Why did it do this ?

What do I do with it now ?

How do I stop it happening again ?

Regards

Dave

Oh! Is that what you're supposed to do, I cut the whole flower stem off from the bottom.?

Yes remove the whole flowering stem from the base and give plenty of water.

Mine do this every single year and I still get a great harvest. So don't worry, just cut them out.
