Bowled Mauve

I bought some erysuim Bowled Mauve as plug plants in the autumn but they are still quite weak with just a single 30cm tall stem and not bushy at all.

Should I trim them to encourage them to bush out?

Thanks

Did you pot them on first? Plug plants will struggle if planted straight out, especially late in the year. Even something as willing to grow as Erysimum Bowles Mauve.  image

Yes they were potted on twice but remained single stemmed and have needed a bit of nurturing

I take cuttings every year from my Bowles Mauve, but you have to pinch out the middles from the earliest opportunity. They send out sde shoots and soon become a bushy plant,  you could try cutting yours down by half, it will shoot out then.

Sounds like what happened to me last year. I put the plugs straight into the soil and did not pinch and they got leggy and died around mid summer. Everyone was saying how easy they are to grow and couldn't work out why they died. Reading this, it now makes sense.
