Aquilegia

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have a confession to make......I have been following the forum for some weeks now and find it to be very informative and may I say entertaining at times. I love the challenge of growing my own plants, therefore  I sow most of my own plants for my garden, I consider myself to be an avid amateur gardener, my main interest is flower growing.  Although this year I am attempting o grow several perennials, as I have a large front garden which I would like to plant up without having to buy many plants, I enjoy a good challenge!  My query is if I sow aquilegia clematiflora, McKenna Giants and stellata Barlow mix now, will they be strong enough to plant in the garden come October?  Thanks for all replies received.

Yes. Sow them now in a tray or a shady part of the garden. It is hot now, so could inhibit germination. make sure the soil is well watered and sprinkle thinly. They may take up to six weeks to germinate. If you have a packet of each, try sowing half of each now, and save some to autumn sow when it is cooler.  If sowing in a tray, prick off into three inch pots and they should go in final position as soon as the roots fill those pots.  If you have a nursery bed, leave them in in and move the plants to final position after they start growing and sending up the first few leaves next spring.
