Self-watering garden!

Hi folks, been out in the garden today and noticed a small peculiarly wet area which I hadn't watered for days. Been out this evening and it's definitely spread. I can only conclude it is probably a water leak but am so reluctant to phone them as I have lavished 5 years hard work and a lot of money on my garden and hate the thought of a large area being dug up. I'm going to reconsider tomorrow, but if I do have a leak and they come out to fix it and damage things, am I entitled to any compensation? I am so tempted to leave it at a self-watering garden might be quite handy at the moment!

Mains water? Have you got a water meter?

    or drains water?

Have a look at your household insurance policy. Also consider that if the wet area spreads even further it could create the damage to your garden you are trying to avoid.

I don't understand "drains water" but no, I'm not on a meter thank goodness!

DO NOT IGNORE IT! It may be a small leak now but if it's a pressured system (I.e. into the house rather than drain away) it could get worse very quickly. Also dependent in its location it could be causing damage to your house under pinning.

As for what will they cover? This is dependent on what your insurance policy states and of course what the water supplier offers too. For instance we now know our water supplier will replace the concrete areas of the driveway but not the patterned bricks.

Yes, of course I don't want my garden to be a bog so I will take a look tomorrow morning. I have also looked on my insurance policy and it's all a bit unclear but for "escape of water" I appear to have an excess of £245 (MUCH higher than for anything else!). I am a pensioner and have just pranged my car - £2000 of damage and obviously an excess for that too! Luckily I have a protected 8 yr NCB which means I won't lose that as my insurance company allows two claims in 3 years before dropping it. What an expensive week it might turn out to be and I'm going on holiday on 13th June!

I'm not ignoring it but wonder what might happen if I'd been away....shudder. It's nowhere near the house at the moment - other end of the garden. I think it is probably drains water as it's at the back and my water pressure into the house hasn't dropped.
