Hosta I was just thinking the same thing, hehe! I'm not even sure it'll look better.
I've 'trained' mine by tying it to some bamboo, this is to encourage it to grow more vertically, I have no ambition to turn it into a standard because it's probably a full-time job! I suppose you would have to keep a single stem from the base, do something similar to tying it and prune any stems coming from the base (etc.). Prune prune prune.
Is it a weigela Florida variegated that grows about 2m high.I have tried to create a single trunk but find it better to remove all the lower branches to create a single canopy.
It naturally has arching branches and removing the lower branches improves that appearance imo

IMHO, you're about to waste a lot of time.
I don't think it will grow a stem straight and strong enough to support the top and it will constantly send shoots out from the base and up the stem.
Take some photos and prove me wrong.

I had to google it, I didn't think it was possible..

They've braided the stems up. (It's a highly photoshopped image) Probably like blue watermelon seeds, black tomatoes, etc.
It looks nice.. but I would think the effort required would be better spent elsewhere in the garden.
