Is my bay tree dead? Please help!

I rescued this poor bay tree from my local restaurant.

It looks completely dry. I watered it once. The tree didn't seem like it was drinking it.

Trunk looks healthy but there is no fresh leaf anymore. They are all dried.

is there anything I can do to save it or is it dead?

  • Dunk the whole root ball (without pot) into a bucket of water and leave an hour.

You may be too late though, I fear.

Bays are tough though, you never know.

If it survives, repot it into a larger pot with some fresh compost.

Keep it in the shade until you see it recover.

It's worth doing as Jess suggests. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

It may have gone too far, but I threw some of my old stock onto the fire three years ago and my brother 'rescued' them, minus leaves and rather charred. They all but one of them (six) have come back are are looking fresh and green, albeit a bit misshapen!

    Thank you for the replies!

    I will try all that.

Should I trim off all the dead leaves? Or should I leave them on the branches?

  • Doest really matter for now - first see if it is still alive, as above!
