Lily of the Valley
in Plants
Good evening, I planted these Lily of the Valleys about two months ago and they haven't done anything-they're not dead but they're not growing either...
They are exactly the same as they were two months ago! They were happily growing in pots in the greenhouse before but seem to have hated being put in the earth. They are in a shady part of the garden in an area that was covered in weeds, soil quite dense compared with rest of garden
I dug in a bag of manure and put in some privet which seems to be doing ok... I have given them regular water and a liquid seaweed feed. Was hoping for some flowers by now!
Can anyone help-are they a failure?
Thanks

Not a total failure - they are still there!
I have had several attempts but never managed to get the darned things to grow. You can only hope that yours are putting all their efforts into growing good roots and that they will give you a lovely surprise next May
how far apart did you plant the bulbs?
they look a long distance away from each other, lily of the valley look better in clumps and until they get settle can take a while to spread (once they're settled however you'll be weeding them out of everywhere!)
I would give them a good feed and then mulch with some decent organic matter- garden compost should be great, that'll keep the weeds down and keep the roots cool and damp
Thank you, I did pull a dead looking one out last night and was surprised by how deep the roots went, could be they come back stronger next year, fingers crossed!
I will have a go at clumping them closer together, I got them for ground cover expecting them to cover the whole area-keep reading they are supposed to be invasive
. Thanks for the advice!
