I've built a wooden planter about 2m x .4m x .3m.
I'm going to put in tomato plants and carrots to start.
What mix of top soil and compost should I go for?

I'm not sure that tomatoes and carrots are a good thing to plant together, tomatoes need feed, carrots don't.
Ok. Thanks for that. I have 2 planters sonic could keep them separate.
I'm thinking of just getting 6 bags of top soil and 3 compost and mixing them together.
I would use a mix of topsoil and well rotted manure, rather than multi-purpose compost which breaks down to dust much quicker than manure. Manure improves the water retention properties of the mix as well as containing nutrients for the tomatoes ........... not for the carrots.
