Watering my young Cherry Blossoms

Hi All

Do you more experienced gardeners water your trees even though it rains? Here in the Midlands this week its rained quite heavily so would you still water or would that not be necessary?

My trees are both young maybe 5-6ft max planted 3 weeks ago

Any advice welcome

Depends on the location, the ground, how well you've prepped the planting holes  and what else is around. If the rain has been heavy enough to penetrate properly, you probably don't need to worry.

It's one of those situations where you just have to use your judgement. If they look happy and the ground where you've planted them is well soaked, then leave them for a little while - a week possibly, depending on the weather.  If the ground's still dry - water them. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I would water them in dry periods for the first year, but not in winter. A good weekly soak is better than a light daily sprinkle. But, of course, if it's been raining and your earth is properly damp there would be no need.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • The soil around the trees is damp. It's been raining on and off for three days here in Northamptonshire. I'll leave it for now and wait and see

    Thank you
