Quadmire lawn

Hi I have moved into a newish house and just cut down over 30 foot long of bamboo which was taller than the house. I have had guys in to remove roots but recognise these will continue for a while.

however, the lawn and garden is a quagmire, I step off the existing lawn and sink up to my ankles in mud where the bamboo was planted.  I wanted to turf over the ground but these seems impractical. I know there is a spring nearby and I need a quick solution as I will be letting the house out whilst I am abroad for a couple of years.

it is strange because the quagmire bit is in the middle of a patch of family firm ground

any advice welcome

    Broken drain?

The spring may have been diverted by someone. I'd get that checked out properly before doing anything else.

Sorry - but I don't what 'family firm' ground is. Is that a typo?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
