Frost probably. Variegated shrubs of any kind tend to be a bit more susceptible, especially if it comes after new, soft growth. Mine always get a bit frosted through winter. I just nip the dead stuff off once it warms up.
The other possibility is animal pee or weedkiller drifting onto it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Thanks Fairy girl I have looked at your answers and have concluded that frost is a possible cause
no animals can wee on these plants as they are deep within the garden and as for weed killer I have not sprayed any thing in this area I will check to see how the frost may have affected this 1 shrub thanks lester

They sometimes die back a bit if there's a broken stem/branch, so worth taking a look to see if there's any damage.
