Clematis dropping petals

So, I have a clematis that was planted last spring.  It came back this year and was growing beautifully until recently.  The flower petals have begun falling off.  There are still some blooms on it but I don't see any new buds.  Any idea what could be causing this?  The stem/vine seems healthy.

What sort of clematis is it?

Different varieties of clematis bloom at different times of the year ... some bloom in the spring and then have a second flush in late summer.  Very few have a long flowering period.

It's a Group 2 - so it flowers in spring and then later in the year as well.

Clematis take several years to mature, so if it was a young, small plant last year, it may take a few years to build up to flowering more. That's normal  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Clematis Blue Light ought to give you blooms for a couple of months May/June and some more later around September ... has it had plenty of water?  They are thirsty plants, especially when they're producing flower buds and we have had a very dry spring.  Also a dose of specialist Clematis Food each spring is advisable.
