What is this?

Me again... What imageis this? Is it a giant weed (there are three and they appear to be getting larger!) or is it a plant?? Huge thanks.

I think you'll find weeds are plants and the dividing line is on a sliding scale in our minds image

A wild guess would be the opium poppy but I'm not sure - the leaves might be too green.

Whatever it is it's glorious ... it does look a bit like an opium poppy and they do pop up unnanounced and sometimes grow quite large and then they're gone at the end of the summer.

I think it's wonderfully architectural .... I'd make the most of it and wait and see what it produces ... if it's an opium poppy it's obviously a really good strain so I'd save some seeds if I were you.

Looks a bit like some kind of Brassica, maybe oilseed rape.

  • Damnations, I hope not. We are surrrounded by oil seed rape so this is a distinct possibility ?

  • imageLook what has emerged! Some sort of giant poppy I assume. Pleased I hung on to them despite the ugly foliage!

I'm so jealous, that's a lovely specimen.  You can save the seeds afterwards - the seed pods are amazing as well.
