Do hawthorn and pyracantha go together?

jttwendyjttwendy Posts: 5

I'd like to plant a hedge against a fence approx 10ft long, partly evergreen & good for wildlife - suggestions please? Was thinking of 3 orange pyracantha And 2 hawthorn. Good mix?Was considering rosa glauca too, but think maybe limiting to 2 plant types in such a small area would be best? Help please.

    Agreed, why would they not?

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

Sounds good to me. I have blackthorn and pyracantha along some of my boundary. The blackthorn blooms are glorious and now that they've finished, the pyracantha will take over. Loads for the insects and bees etc, and the little birds all have good cover in there. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks Fairygirl, I'll look at blackthorn too, before I decide - not sure how different to hawthorn. We've just moved house to a much smaller garden than before. Lots of birds around - I'm on a mission to make new planting as wildlife friendly as I can.
