Bed of weeds?
in Plants
Hello, as a keen but clueless new gardener I have just let this flowerbed grow to see what's what in our new garden-can anyone advise on what the following plants might be, particularly if they are invasive weeds I should be pulling out?
Thought this one might turn out to be a poppy but it has really nasty prickles on it.
Think these are buttercups-bad idea?
A few clumps of this coming up, thought it was pyracantha but no thorns-any idea? Also, is that twisty thing behind it bindweed?
Thanks!

1) looks like a thistle of some kind and would have it out.
2) is indeed buttercup - out.
3 looks like flowering quince (Chaenomeles) a keeper.
I reckon that's a bit of creeping thistle so there may be more.
If you're looking for poppies they're in with the buttercups

Fab, thank you both-there are a fair few prickly thistles for sure, will get them! The poppies are just coming out, beautiful
.
Hope you are right about the flowering quince Bob, it is on my wish-list.
Thanks again
It does look rather like a bindweed behind the Chaenomales.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I agree re the Flowering Quince but I call it Chaenomeles

Well spotted dove. There is a rather nice euonymus to the left of the quince. You will need to tie the quince up to the fence.
Yep, bed of weeds, I knew it... sounds like there are some classic nasties in there. Thanks for the help and for your replies!
