why wont my cornus grow

I planted a run of cornus plants in December, they were small but they just don't seem to have had any growth at all yet.  I have pot mulch around them and feed them.  they were planted in multi purpose compost in the ground.  What am I doing wrong please?

what sort of cornus? Have they got leaves?

Feeding doesn't help until they're growing

What is the soil like outside the compost? If it's heavy clay it can be difficult for roots to move from the compost to the clay. Were they bare root or in pots. If they were in pots were they pot bound and did you tease the roots out a bit if they were.? They don't take up moisture well if they're like that.

  • They were bare rooted and received mail order.  They are in compost and were planted as soon as I received them.  They are winter flame not sure of full name.
