Small Balcony garden ideas

Hi there, I live in a flat that has a small veranda/ balcony connecting to my living room, I am looking for help and inspiration for building or acquiring a structure that would fit most garden plants. I am up for building or buying it. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thank you in advance!
I want to be able to grow my own food, as a project and to save the pennies!

You could grow herbs and salad in pots over the railing.

You could also grow tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, radish, carrots etc pots or even grow bags. if you have enough room you could even grow potatoes in potatoe grow sacks

Cheap and ideal for balconly growing. Just file with compost and plant whatever you fancy.
strawberries would also grow well in those hanging planters sussexsun suggests. You could also grow parsley, chives and some other edible herbs in cheap terracotta pots.

Well I was thinking of converting some wooden pallets but I quite like the idea of the little mini pots think they would look quite lovely, I have some of my seeds germinating now just need to find somewhere for them to go.

No reason not to do wooden trough type planters too. Just be careful of the weight - you need to be sure the balcony will take it if you go too large - wet soil is really heavy.

Ahh, I didn't think of that! haha yes I will bear that in mind I think I will get some grow bags and order some over railing pots for now and see how it goes and maybe expand then
How much light/sun and wind does it get? That will have a bearing on what you grow too

Something like this wall basket planter would be easy to fix onto the railings with some plastic cable ties.

well I usually get a lot of sun and light until late afternoon when it shifts, and as for the wind I get alot living in Scotland
