Composting Danger?

Can anyone please advise if it is safe to use my own organically produced compost, that has been inhabited over Winter by a colony of mice, perhaps an odd rat, for my vegetable and greenhouse garden areas?

... my allotment is overrun by Uncle Tom Cobleys and this morning, a couple of Joe Bloggs were spotted in the strawberry patch. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?
