Compost and Tomatoes

Torg22Torg22 Posts: 302

hi.

I'm just about to head out and get some 'compost' from Aldi but is this stuff adequate enough to grow tomatoes in. I'm am not looking for award winning tomatoes just a nice crop come end of summer. I don't think the bags say multi purpose, just compost.

I may also put some sunflowers in it.

Thanks

Chris

It'll be fine Chris, tomatoes will grow in just about anything.  Just feed them with a liquid tomato feed like tomorite once the first tiny tomatoes appear as the nutrients in commercial composts don't last long.  You can use the same feed on the sunflowers.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thanks Bob. Saves me having to buy expensive soil from the garden centre..
