"Fishing" Waders

I'm looking to buy a pair of "waders" to wear when working in the lake. Does anyone have any recommendations? Any fishing friends out there?

They don't need to be super wonderful as I'll probably only wear them a couple of times a year, but how cheap is too cheap?

yeah, chest waders. We've got a serious weed problem and I need to get in as deep as I can.

Two basic choices to start with and that's PVC or Neoprene. I'm a carp angler and 'we' generally go for PVC as they are quick to get in and out of and you're only in the water for a short period of time so thermal protection is not a requirement.

River or trout anglers prefer Neoprene as they are in the water for hours at a time.

If looking at PVC then Vass waders are very popular right now but I have a pair of Ron Thomson Ontario waders which you can get from Go Outdoors. Can definitely recommend them and they are in your price bracket.

As Scroggin says, take care with storage - keep straight, out of direct daylight, preferably not in extremes of temperature and you'll get many years service out of them.

What about a wet suit, then it won't matter if you have to swim image

I tried a pair of waders, got in the pond and I couldn't move with the waders and the water ganging up on me,

thanks for the replies one and all.

I think I'll go with PVC.

The lake is about 4m deep at the deepest point, but the weed doesn't form there, only over the shallower parts.

I thought I might try a wee swim when it's warmer, but it's pretty mucky . Maybe I should install one of those fancy outdoor showers you see at Garden shows?
