Beginner gardener - help please

Hi fellow gardeners,

I wonder if you can help?  I am completely new to gardening, with the exception of house plants I have never done any outside gardening in my life!  I have just moved into our forever home and I now have a huge garden, currently still field and big blank canvas back yard!  As a starting point I potted up some plants to go outside the back door for a bit of life and they've been there a week!  I have an Acer in a large pot and some celosia in pots however I have just notice today that the celosia flowers are fading at the edges and some of the leaves have developed a weird brown colour and my Acer has two patches where the leaves have completely shrivelled and died!  Any ideas what could be causing this, all the other plants seem fine and it's only in a couple of places of the affected plants!  Any help gratefully received!  Pics attachedimageimageimage

HI gini, have you had low overnight temperatures  ? I'm wondering if it is frost damage.Welcome to the forum by the way ! image

Funny you say that...coldish and wet is often the norm, I'm in Northern Ireland! But it's been 20 degrees every day for the past 2.5 weeks! First rain this morning for ages and for NI that's saying something!
