We have one of those, not quite that big but it is in a less than ideal position. It is about 6 feet high and 8 feet wide and is a solid wall of colour just now. It is at least 25 years old though and may even be 40+ years old so definitely one for the long term. The colour is wonderful and the bees love it, a quick peek earlier this week had at least 6 different types of bee on it. There is a honeysuckle azalea growing alongside and the contrast of its yellow flowers with the purple is, shall we say, vivid.
I was lucky enough to inherit these two beauties from previous owner of my house. They are each about 6ft across/ The colour in April/May is incredible.

Wow. I've been carrying this potted plant from house to house and not realising what I had. I've been ignoring the poor thing for most of the year and yet it's a potential plant "antique"
Cloggie - it's amazing to think that things me or you are planting today might be appreciated by future generations in 40/50 years time, don't you think?
Thanks (or not really) to the wonders of technology I was able to "little man" (street view) back to my first ever garden using Google Maps to see that a couple of years after moving out, someone ripped out my gorgeous design and paved it over.
I felt sad.
This set me up on a pattern of "garden stalking" and I looked at my second garden (which to be honest I didn't finish before moving on) and found that they'd ripped out the 1930s privet hedge, not sure why because parking was ok with or without it?!
I have definitely honoured the planting put in by a previous owner of my current garden and will add to the things here because I brought mature pots with me.
Whether that will be overridden in the future will now be documented on Google Earth but luckily I won't witness it!!

I also have some smaller varieties out front. One still had the a label attached to the stem when I moved 5 years ago - v, John Cairns, planted 1974!
So can you hedge a bet at how old 1634Racine?
Best guess is that all these went in at the same time, so probably 40 years!
Would love to see a pic steephill.

Can't halt change!
