Virginia creeper
Hi I'm a very new gardener and I've recently planted a virginia creeper. However the leaves are wilting and it doesn't appear to be growing at all. It is planted against a wall which is quite shaded and the soil around here is clay however when I planted it is put compost in the hole before planting. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated
Many thanks

Water. In my experience these V.Creepers grow very quickly at this time of year and need plenty of water and some feed to keep them happy. You did the right thing by adding compost to the planting hole, but did you plant deep enough? Did the plant have a good root system or was the pot full of roots? I always tease the roots of new plants, simply helping them to spread out prior to planting. If the plant was very dry it is essential to plunge the pot into a bowl or bucket of water to plant pot height for an hour or so to give the plant a good drink.
I'd agree with GD. Did you plant well away from the wall too? It's a common mistake to plant any climber right up against a wall, which means it's in the rain shadow of the wall. It's been very dry everywhere in the country, so it's really important to keep newly planted specimens really well watered. A good can full every few days - not a sprinkling every day. A mulch of well rotted manure or some decent compost after watering will help too
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you both I think I might have planted it to near to the wall..given that it's not doing very well I might try to move it a little and see if that helps...nothing to lose as I don't think it's going to thrive where it is.
Really appreciate your help
