Cherry Tree with Bad Blackfly Infestation
I have Stella Cherry tree, a 3-4 year old planted two years ago making it 5 or 6 years old. This year it is infested with blackfly on many of the growing point leaves. If I were to prune all the ends of the affected shoots, bearing in mind that summer is the time to prune cherries, could I halt this infestation? I had planned to summer prune for shape in any case this year. It is growing quite vigorously and there is no fruit.
For the future, is there a regime I should follow to avoid this problem, without resorting to chemicals?
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

Hang a bird feeder in the tree. The birds will clear up the aphids while queuing
Thanks Butter; I think I am too late for that this year as the problem is too advanced but will bear in mind for next year.
Anyone else got any advice for now?
