Can you identify this house plant?

I bought 2 of these large (6 foot) houseplants from someone who is moving overseas.

She didnt know what they were or how to look after them.  She watered them every day or two, keeping the soil always moist, and them seem to have done well.  They look in good health to me - even after being jammed into the boot of my car.

I'd love to know what it is and how to care for it?

It looks like a Dieffenbachia to me. Very easy to look after and you will probably find lots of hints on t'internet image

Thanks!  Yes, that looks like the one.

I've just googled it and it seems very easy to look after.  Moist soil.  No direct sunlight, but apart from that fairly hard to go wrong.

I'm a bit worried by the toxicity warnings though.  We have a baby on the way and once he starts crawling he could easily try eating a leaf.   I think we'll need to give these away at that point.

Yes, not good plants to have around toddlers at the 'mouthing' stage ... good plants for office foyers etc, where children are usually few and far between.  Perhaps you can find someone who would rehome them for you - they do look remarkably handsome image

I think that is very sensible dominoman. Its common name is Dumb Cane as it causes swelling in the mouth if someone were to accidently chew on a leaf.
