Cayenne pepper growing very slow!

Hi folks just looking for a little advice again.

Iv got a few cayenne pepper plants growing and i think theyve been growing for about 6 weeks. Started them on the window ledge and recently have had them in a hot conservatory during the day then back to window ledge at night. (Conservatory gets cold at night).

Anyway plants are literally lile 3 inches of that. In comparison the tomatoes are significantly bigger. 10-12 inches maybe. So os it just different growing rates or is the environment not right for the chillis ? I have recently given them a very dilute feed of seaweed extract.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Jamie

Mine are still very small too but I think this is the same as other years when I've grown them. They'll take off once the weather really warms up.

Thanks singing gardner. They are going rewlly slowly at the moment but as you say hopefully they take off when the summer arrives. Appreciate the reply :)

    Thanks

  • This year I'm growing two overwintered Scotch bonnets. They are doing amazingly well and have started fruiting 3 months earlier than last year. It's well worth the effort keeping a couple of plants over the winter!

I also have a Scorpion Moruga and Ghost White which are both doing well. The former has a double flower I've never seen before and the latter is covered in very angry looking fruits.

But my 3 Cayenne chillies have just one flower bud between them and 2 of the plants are still pretty tiny given how long ago I planted them. They are milder than the other 3 chilli varieties so I wondered why they are so slow. They have been growing in the same conditions, which have been warm for months now (they live on a very sunny roof terrace in central London). I hope they come good in the end, otherwise it will be the first and last time I bother with growing Cayennes.

    All the best,

    Mike

My experience from growing various types of chilli is that if they get checked at all they stall. You could try giving them a feed of Tomato food or Chilli Focus and see if that improves matters.

     Hello scroggin,

Thanks for your reply. The only thing I can think of is that they have been over watered (although there are no visible signs of that). They have been fed with CF, although not as much as the others since there's no blossom or fruit yet. I'll let them dry out to see if that encourages them a little. They may be struggling with the large pot they are sitting in relative to their size.
