Cut strawberry leaves off?

turmericturmeric Posts: 830

Sounds daft but my strawberries have lots of foliage with some enormous leaves about 12in above the plants.  I'm thinking the strawberries might not ripen as they're shaded by the huge leaves.  Would anyone cut them off or is this normal? The leaves weren't this big last year. Many thanks.

I sometimes take a few off if they're a bit big, but only when the fruits are forming  image

I snip them off as well, no point growing lush leaves when you want lush fruit.

Yes but the plant needs its leaves.  By all means cut them off after you have gathered the fruit.  Not before.  I guarantee the fruit will ripen despite the foliage.

Thanks everyone, sorry for the delay.  I think it's probably safe to remove some as there are so many smaller ones below. image
