Can you plant bedding in the same container as a palm

in Plants
My neighbour has asked if it's possible to plant his summer bedding in the same container we as his hardy palm. He's told me that the roots are at the top of the container and I think it's been in the same co trainer for a couple of years. Any suggestions?

Perfectly possible if you choose varieties that will stand up to infrequent watering. But from what you say there does not seem enough room for the new plants and no feeding. On the whole, not a good idea.
Thanks Hogweed. I'll say to him about repotting the palm but probably not a good idea about the flowers.
Could he just put the bedding plants into three or four different pots, and sit them inside the palm pot on top of the soil? Something spreading would soon cover the area and trail down over the lip of the palm pot. As Hogweed suggested, it should be something with similar water requirements (alternatively, your neighbor could take the small pots out to water, and then sit them back inside).
That's a good idea Blue Onion. I'll mention it to him. I personally like the idea of being able to take the pots out to water them separately. Thanks!
