Onions
in Fruit & veg
hi my problem relates to onions. I dont have a traditional vegetable patch, just a lawn with a border round three sides. I have tried for a number of years to grow some onions without success. They will shoot but the bulbs never grow to anything large enough to eat.
Whats the problem?
Thanks

Onions need a well prepared bed, and plenty of feed during the growing season. They also like a lot of light.
And not to mentionwatering... As they will bolt in dry conditions.. You could scatter some pelleted poultry manure around and water it in..
Next time dig a smal trench and fill half depth with well rotted manure then back fill with the soil, rake level and plant your seeds ot seeds on top.. Bigger onions follw,,, Good luck..
I take the point about the light, they are interspersed amongst my flowers , ill probably have to admit defeat and move to a place with a decent sized plot to make a vegetable patch
Thanks
