Cleaning glass

we will be ready to start putting glass in our greenhouse in a week.

the greenhouse was originally a freeze on gumtree... one of those come and dismantle it and you can have it jobs.

its quite big at 18x10 and I did start cleaning the glass but it taking a four while. I just wondered if anyone had any better ideas as this is our first time installing one.

what I have been doing is using a squidgy for cleaning windows and using warm water ( it was previousely up for a decade or 2) and so the glass has some green edges we need to clean and a general clean for the rest. Then after water using windex...... however, it took 2 bottles just to get through about 20 panes.

any better ideas or solutions very welcome.

oh, and by the way! There is no such thing as a free greenhouse ???? But it has been a wonderful project for us and I cannot wait to start using it!

The green comes off quite easily with a paint stripper/scraper (or metal spatula) when it's wet. Then I use a non-stick scouring pad with a bucket of warm water with just a few drops of washing up liquid to clean then a quick squirt with the hose.

Don't use any sort of metallic scourer or you'll scratch the glass - I use the ones for non-stick saucepans

Good luck with it - it'll be worth all the pain and strain in the end

Warm soapy water is all it needs and a plastic scourer. Just remember it is a greenhouse and not your living room window!

You may already have discovered this, but don't press too hard on the panes.  They are generally thinner than house window glass and may also be brittle from age.

dilute vinegar can work better than soapy water - depends a bit on the type of dirt

We've just renovated ours, replaced some glass and pressure washed inside and out, very quick and it got between the overlaps easily as well.
