Fruit tree

My son wants to grow fruit on trees, we have limited space and only have a small patio garden, we grow some fruits from hanging baskets and veggies in pots, we have come across an old oil drum cab we grow apples or pears in this? All advise needed please thanks in advance

Another problem with steel is that in the sunshine it heats up and could 'cook' the roots of whatever is planted in there.
You can grow fruit trees in large pots, if you get the right sort of tree on the right rootstock.

Thanks for the reply, it is over 50 gallons, it was an old tarmac drum but has been used for years as a wood burner in a fellow neighbours garden, already rusty and has 4 air holes in it already, i will look at the link thank you
