Peach tree trunk has died off

I bought a peach tree a couple of years ago. I've read through a few posts and found I've done a few things wrong. Anyway, this year, it looks like the trunk has died off as there is no sign of leaves. However, there are long, thin branches growing from near the bottom. I'm guessing this is either a different type of peach or possible something completely different. Normally, I would take these branches off but I'm thinking of cutting off the trunk and leaving the bottom bit to see what happens. What are your thoughts? Should I leave it a bit longer to see if any leaves appear or is it too late?

  • I was sure it should have leaves at least by now. Yes the branches are below the graft. Do you think I might get fruit from it? It's in a big pot.

  • Yes you're right. Ah well. I think I might leave it a while and see what happens. At least it's another green thing in the garden if nothing else. Thank you.
