Ajuga reptans 'Burgundy Glow' is one of my favourites, lovely pink/purple foliage with spikes of blue flowers in the spring. Works well in most soils except the really dry, great for ground cover, grows to 6-8 inches and the bees love it.
There are so many. I love this colour range. At Iford Manor I was bowled over by their long border with Geranium "Rozanne", Nepata "Junior Walker", Cerinthe minor, Agastache "Blue Fortune", Veronicastrum "Apollo" and - the absolute star - Aster x frikartii Monch.
The border had ribbons of harts tongue fern running through it and silvery Artemisia "Silver Mound", and was studded with deep red Astrantias.
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
I don't have only one favourite. Don't like blue so I don't have any, but I love purple - deep reddish purples, and probably the one I like best is Clematis Etoile Violette. Niobe is my real favourite - but is much redder.
I also love deep purple Irises - 'Night Owl' and the earlier Chrysographes ones are my favourites
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
TThanks again for everyone's input, it's very appreciated! And my wife doesn't know it yet, but we'll be stopping off at the garden center on the way back from the football later haha
Fairygirl, take a look at Iris Dusky Challenger. I bought some a couple of years ago and they are just about to flower for the first time. They are an irredescent dark purple.
Looks nice KOG. Night Owl is beautiful - I can highly recommend it if you like dark colours. Very similar to the chryso. I also have one called Black Dragon which is similar to the Dusky Challenger one from the look of the photos.
I can't find any pix of mine. I'll try and get a few when they flower. Most of them have been in pots and have been a bit nondescript in the last couple of years while waiting for the new beds for them.

Rhododendron Moerheim is a dwarf shrub with violet flowers in April and may. Happy in sun or shade and pretty much maintance free once established.

They're really beautiful plants Loana. Bit shorter than the big summer Irises, and ideal for damper ground
