Not a single sweet pea seed germinated this year (various packets and types) I think something must have eaten them.
I saw some perennial sweet pea plants the other day so I bought them to make up for the disappointment. They're in the poly tunnel with the door open until the warmer weather, I believe they don't smell which is a shame.
I will start my annual sweet peas off in October this year instead of sowing outdoors in the spring, maybe they'll have a better chance that way.
I sowed mine last year after the pods had ripened and I'm sure they germinated before winter...I'd be tempted to unearth a seed and see if it's still sound
Edit, I sowed in a pot outside, although I don't know if this matters.
I'll soak a few and see what happens. I'll be happy if two or three germinate. I don't want too many. I will bear your advice in mind, Joyce - if I ever see one
peas are often very hard and scarification helps. Give them go with some sandpaper then soak them, don't sow them until you've persuaded them to swell.

No I didn't. I'll try that chrissie. Thanks.
B3, be careful where you plant them as the roots go on for ever.

I tried it outside and then in cold porch.
