Photinia 'Red Robin'

Ladybird4Ladybird4 Posts: 37,906

Hi all. I have a Photinia 'Red Robin' which has got very leggy due to the close proximity of my neighbour's dreaded Leylandii. I would like to cut it back severely to encourage it to get a bit more bushy, as it is very bare at the bottom, but am wondering if this is a good thing to do. Its leaves are so pretty that I wouldn't like to lose it. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Leave it another couple of weeks and then be brutal. It'll reward you with a fresh new flush of blazing red leaves.

Thank you H-C. Is there any particular reason I should wait a couple of weeks?

Just to make sure that danger of frost has passed,so that any new growth won't be hammered. Probably ok now, but I like to play safe with other people's plants!

I guessed it might be the frost issue so I'll be patient for another couple of weeks. Thanks so much - again!
