Peony by the look of it  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It's a tree peony, but as to cultivar, Lord only knows. Ambrose Congreve?

Very bonny though HC, isn't it?  Apologies, Rachel  - I meant to add tree in front of peony image

  • Many thanks, do you think this is a young plant then as it's only about 10cm high with two flowers.

It must be bigger than ten centimetres Rachel- that's only four inches!

Is it very near that hedge behind? It's quite hard to tell from the photo. You might need to relocate it  image

  • Hahaha.....sorry....was listening to my 80 year old mum in the background....she's sniggering now!!! It's about a foot high!

Tricky to tell its age as the environment affects it so much.  However, if you haven't just planted it already flowering (!), they usually take a few years to produce flowers.

They can be very slow to flower as Bob says. Good luck with it anyway - whatever you decide to do with it. If it's right beside that hedging - it might not grow any bigger!

There's quite a few people here with tree peonies so they'll be better able to advise you on the best place for it etc  image
