Acer tree
I have an Acer tree and have noticed some brown dead leaves, all of which are on the outside parts of the tree (although not a lot, but enough to notice). Could it be because the weather has been dry of late? I live near to Manchester.

They do need plenty of regular watering but they do have to be in free draining soil which is not waterlogged.
Could be sunburn or wind burn. My dissectum has this problem too and I think its because its been exposed to a a bit of wind recently.
Have you had any frost in the last couple of weeks? Mine looks absolutely miserable following a frost here last week.
If you had the frost last week, it will have caught the new leaves.
Wind-burn does affect Acers too, but I should think it will be frost in this case.
Snap, Singing Gardener!
Thanks everyone, we have had some windy conditions in the last few days, but really any frost, although the temperature has dropped through the nights?
They can also be a bit more susceptible to frazzly edges if they've been short of water the previous year. In the same way that Camellia buds (and other similar shrubs) can be affected by being short of water the previous summer when the buds form.
If it gets quite a bit of sun, make sure it's well watered at the base during hot, dry or windy spells. It will recover though
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Having same problem here in very windy but dry South Wales. Have even taken to putting mine in bright but sheltered new shed to keep it from being blown to bits.
Just wish the wind would go somewhere else
Was going to take the covers off all my Lilies/Iris in pots today to expose them to some nice weather -- but couldn't take a chance that they wouldn't have been battered about. Need a nice calm day -- fingers crossed it will be sometime soon
