Alliums at Highgrove

Peanuts3Peanuts3 Posts: 759

Today we went to Highgrove and had a great day.  We spotted some alliums that had a tall pointy bud but the tour guide was unable to tell us what kind of allium it was.

Have any of you been there at this time of year ?  They were in the Cottage Garden to the left of the gate where the topiary elephant was ? They were just over a metre tall, and a fairly fat bud.

They were so striking, that it would be nice to know what variety they were.

Thank you.

There's so many varieties Peanuts. At that height, and with that size of bud,  I'm guessing it will be one of the big ones - Globemaster, Giganteum or Christophii perhaps.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Sphaerocephalon is tiny - tall, but tiny.

I wonder - if you contacted them directly  - would they be able to give you the info? Head gardener might know the exact one  image

The bud was pointy or the bloomed flower?

If flower how about Allium Forelock.

None of my alliums have fully opened yet, most of the buds have some form of pointyness to them though. Globemaster, Ambassador?
