What is this on my Magnolia

Hi can any one identify this on my mature Magnolia tree. Apart from this it is very healthy. Thanks for any advice Lilly

    I think it's just lichen which is completely harmless and an indicator of good air quality. 

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
