Problem with my hydrangea

image

Hi.. over the last couple of weeks I noticed that the leaves on my hydrangea had started turning brown & dry. On closer inspection I can see that they look like they are been eaten.. Not sure if I have found the culprit or what it is..

If someone could please tell me best solution and does this mean my plant won't flower this year ?

That is an insect pupa of some description. It does not necessarily mean that your hydrangea won't flower. It is still a little early (depending where you are in the country) for flowers.

Mine don't flower until August, the brown dry looking leaves could be the result of the cold nights we've been having lately. Assuming it's in the ground, and was trimmed at the correct time, I'm sure it will flower when it's ready.

As LB says, the pupa wouldn't have anything to do with it not flowering.
