I've seen a few of them this morning but only on the clematis. What are they ?

"No damage is caused by the common green shield bug. The southern green shield bug may cause distorted bean pods and damaged fruits" Nothing in the text to explain how to identify the southern from the northern. Do we have to listen to the accent?
Not a lot of bean pods on a clematis so you're probably safe

The native shield bug has a darker rear end than the southern one, which is mostly just green.
But yes, your clematis should be fine
They're lovely things to have in the garden

We love finding Shield bugs in the garden. They're beautiful
