Stinking shrub

We have a bush to the side of our door and we have forgotten the name of it. Every time it rains, we notice a dreadful stench emanating from it. Also, though it is growing new foliage, it appears to be under attack from something. Could this be the cause of the smell and what if anything, can we do about it?

The photo goes blurry when I try and zoom in. Can you take a close up of the leaves and buds (if it has any)?
What sort of smell is it?
It's a large shrub - has something crawled in or under it and died?
Like Bob mentioned, it's hard to get an accurate ID by zooming in but from a distance it looks like a Laurel. If it is a Laurel, very few pests will affect them when they're mature.
Some diseases can and signs are usually browing, curling up or shot holes through the foliage. Does your bush display any signs of this?
If it's not a Laurel, ignore the above
No, it's not a Laurel, I think it begins with 'V'. I will take a 'macro' shot later. I took one earlier but when I tried to open it, I kept getting a message saying that the programme didn't support that type of file.
An evergreen Vibernum?
I usually find that a smelly shrub is caused by a fox leaving me a little gift underneath

Hi Val, it's probably a Viburnum as 'Mowtastic' says and the smell is from the plant being attacked by Viburnam beetle I know because my neighbour has one and every year when it is under attack it smells like dog mess !
That looks like a Viburnum Tinus and it looks as though it has been infested with Viburnum Beetle.
