Moving a mature hydrangea now
Hi guys!
I've been granted permission from work to have a mature hydrangea bush which otherwise in a few weeks will be flattened for an extension.
Im aware this is potentially as far from the best time of year to move it, be I couldnt bare to see it chopped and skipped. Has anyone any tips to help me move it and minimising the risk of losing it?
I'll be digging it out Saturday 6th May, I haven't access to it before
Any advice gratefully received

Give the area a good watering if you can to make extraction easier. Prepare the new site in advance. I would then cut it back really hard, almost to the ground which they should cope with at this time of the year. Obviously try and take as big a rootball as you can manage.
Thanks for this! ?
Hydrangeas strike easily from cuttings ... even just in water. Take some cuttings as well as transplanting the shrub .... just as insurance

Thank you! i will ?
sorry for the delay in reply, moved the hydrangea 2 weeks ago and it seems to be fine. The cutting haven't yet rooted but all 9 have survived in water this far. Fingers crossed! Thanks for your advice ?
That sounds promising .......... be patient with the cuttings ........... they'll take several weeks but my betting is that they'll root.

I've never tried those cuttings in water, they root easily in compost with the leaves cut in half And a lid or plastic bottle over the top.
