decorative tree recommendation needed

inmyprimeinmyprime Posts: 3

Hello,
We are looking for tree recommendations to plant in the middle of our garden. Ideally, my wife wants a decorative tree with weeping/spread out branches that also has nice blossoms in spring or winter.
Has to be something that grows well in UK and isn't prone to too many illnesses and perhaps grows relatively fast (she wants to have our kids hide underneath it). Although growing fast is perhaps not that important if we can buy a relatively mature tree.
I know...lots of demands. :)
Would be great to hear some suggestions.
Thanks!

That's the birch tree that my wife wants to replace with the new tree (I feel somewhat sad taking it out. Is it possible to take it out without killing it, to plant it somewhere else? It's a couple of years old).

The weeping silver pear (Pyrus salicifolia) would make a perfect den. It has weeping silvery branches and small white flowers in spring. Don't know whether it would grow fast enough to keep up with the kids though! It doesn't make an enormous tree and can be pruned to contol its size and spread,so could you not find room for it off to one side and enjoy the birch as well?

Possibly could. Would hate to chop up the birch tree :-(

Thanks for the suggestion. We actually have three pear trees in the garden! (But I guess this is a decorative pear). I was also thinking about Cheals Weeping Cherry (PRUNUS KIKU SHIDARE SAKURA). Has beautiful blossoms (we have the non-weeping variety in the front).
