New greenhouse - beginner staging question

hi all,

i could do with some expert advice.  I have just purchased my first ever greenhouse.

i have purchased babbington staging to go the length of my 6 x 8 greenhouse.  I notice on a lot of pictures the solid bases have grit in them and the pots sat on top - could you tell me is this to stop the pots and trays drying out or due to heat or simply for watering purpose?

i have moved all my plants in from the cold frame I had to start and want to make sure I get things right as they all seem to be getting off to a really good start image

I've just got aluminium staging and put pots directly onto that.
I've got a heated tray with about 1" of sand in it which I done to hold the heat and keep the temperature even.
Plants are looking good, so just keep on doing what you're doing, and best of luck

    Hi everyone,

Love the new greenhouse Thb.   I have an 8 x 6 and my biggest problem is keeping the junk out!  During the winter its "what can I do with this for a while?  I know, put it in the greenhouse and shut the door on it".   Hence I ended up with two tables, a chest of drawers and goodness knows what in there this spring.

I have a serious case of greenhouse envy. Mine is to small and full of junk that I won't throw away as it might be useful. Old takeaway trays I use a pot saucers, the cats old ping pong balls I use as cane toppers, bits of prunings I will use for staking and all sorts of old garden hand tools as I am always leaving them out in the garden so can't find them when I need to so end up buying more.

I keep pots trays etc. in 2 dustbins at the bottom of the garden, 1 greenhouse if full os "stuff" we downsized, and are no open plan, bungalow so no understairs "glory hole", so vases and china pots have to live in greenhouse no;1 am chatting to Hubby about potting shed, then they can go in there!
