Please can anyone tell me the names of these shrubs? The one on the right is really quite straggly and not sure how to deal with it-seems it's been there a long time and lots of long roots/?suckers. Many thanks!
You can hard prune the Spirea to achieve a better shape and more lush plant. You should prune in early spring, before it comes into leaf but you can trim after flowering (June ish) too.

Looks like a Hebe and a Spirea Japonica
Maybe a Hebe Rakaiensis for the top one
